The urgent need for vocational training is evidenced by research published by the Urban Institute in September 2015 regarding Child Poverty & Adult Success:
- The Davidson County poverty rate for children was 33.1%, compared to 26.2% statewide.
- Out of 95 counties, Davidson ranked 90th in high school graduation rates.
- Davidson County’s poverty rate increased to 19.9% in 2014, well ahead of the state increase to 18.3%.
- A 47.9% poverty rate was found in single mothers with children under age five.
