Learning Centers
Each year from September through May, approximately 800 children are transported EACH WEEK to learning centers in Nashville. These learning centers are provided by more than 20 churches citywide. On Monday nights, buses and vans go into South Nashville. On Tuesday nights, these vehicles go into East Nashville.
Children, ages 3 through 16, are divided into three groups:
- Group one is ages 3-6
- Group two is ages 7 to 9
- Group three is ages 10 to 13
Teenagers, (ages 14 through 18), work as volunteers on the buses and in the learning centers where they enjoy interacting with teen volunteers from the learning centers. Each learning center teaches 30 to 40 children. For two hours each week the children are introduced to Basic Life Skills and Developmental Assets® by Christians who love and nurture them. This makes a positive impact on the lives of the children and their families.
In addition to the regular learning center activities, bus teams, learning centers, and outreach staff work together by giving children parties, field trips, outings and special events throughout the year. As the children wait for the bus, eyes light up and smiles stretch across their face when they see it coming. They know they will be transported to a learning center that is safe and where they will learn about hope, joy, and love by people who love them.
