The battle against poverty can be won if the starting point is in the home.
• Statistics from the Metro Police Department indicates that the number of juveniles arrested on suspicion of robberies is up 63% compared to the same period last year. This is a clear indicator of the breakdown of the home structure in our city.
• The same statistics reveal that of all the juveniles arrested in Davidson County, 75% have been arrested before. It is obvious the parents have not corrected the behavior of their troubled teenager.
Nashville Inner City Ministry has been serving at-risk families by attacking poverty for 30 years. We help families by empowering them with skills and information on raising their own children. After all the work we've done, we are not able to remove at-risk teenagers from the influence of a high crime community. However, the training has paid off. Even though these teens are exposed to the criminal element, the vast majority are successfully making healthy decisions.
